From what I recall, the chain/guide/tensioner issues are not absent from B7s. Factor the cost of the repair into the cost of the car and what you're cross shopping it with; are you willing to dish out 16.5k for a V8 S4 or not (any any issues to your personal life that the unplanned maintenance may cause), and is that comprable to what your M3 is worth / what you're getting out of it. Atleast that way the warranty will absorb the 22+ hours of labor to pull and engine for repairing the adjuster.
